what’s on!

There is so much to do in the West Country, aside from all that natural beauty and the comforts of Lilac Cottage, you’ll be spoilt for choice. So we’ve compiled a list of main events to give you a few ideas.

We suggest you might like to catch up with the local newspapers, especially The Western Gazette published on a Thursday, which you’ll find in Our Shop in the village or maybe in the bar at the pub! There will also be a copy of the church magazine in the cottage for you to read.

There is a binder full of local information and leaflets in the cottage and maps for you to borrow. We are always happy to help with suggestions and directions should you need any.

You might wish to while away a bit of time reading the archives of Helen’s blog, HenHouse,  in which she has recounted tales of many trips in and around the West Country which will give you lots of ideas for things to do, especially if you like shopping with a vintage bias!

In addition, you will find regular farmers’ and vintage markets in many of the surrounding villages and towns.  In the lead up to Christmas, many of the villages will have trees, lights and festivals and in the Summer, there is a wealth of village fêtes, country shows and carnivals which are great fun. Forde Abbey is a lovely place to visit and pick your own fruit.  Bridport has a vintage market the last Sunday of every month from March to September.  We will update this list regularly as and when we become aware of events.
